What Remains Southern Spirits Book 6 edition by Bailey Bradford Romance eBooks

What Remains by Bailey Bradford
Book six in the Southern Spirits series
Severo and Laine thought they had it all. They had great friends, each other—and the spirits of McKinton, TX.
Until Sev gets a call from his sister asking to visit. He's been the family pariah for most of his life. This sudden offering is something Sev had never even dared to hope for. Laine is suspicious but supportive. Then their world is altered when all the spirits in McKinton vanish on the same day.
Missing spirits, a coven of Wiccans, and a sister and her family all hit McKinton at the same time. Laine doesn't know who has stolen the spirits, but he's going to find out.
Was it the well-meaning Wiccans? Or is there something more sinister at work in McKinton?
The Southern Spirits series
There's nothing quite like a Southern drawl or Southern charm—and nothing so loyal as a Southern spirit.
On the surface, McKinton, Texas seems like the stereotypical small town, USA. Smiling faces greet you everywhere you go, and people are quick to lend a helping hand. Most people, that is. Then there's the ones who let hate rule their lives, who are controlled by their own twisted passions, who are determined to hurt and destroy.
Only love can withstand and triumph over such hatred, but sometimes, even love needs a helping hand. There's something in McKinton that stands ready; Southern Spirits that intervene at the worst and best of times. With their humor, charm, and death-defying love, these spirits.
About Bailey Bradford
A native Texan, Bailey spends her days spinning stories around in her head, which has contributed to more than one incident of tripping over her own feet. Evenings are reserved for pounding away at the keyboard, as are early morning hours. Sleep? Doesn't happen much. Writing is too much fun, and there are too many characters bouncing about, tapping on Bailey's brain demanding to be let out.
Caffeine and chocolate are permanent fixtures in Bailey's office and are never far from hand at any given time. Removing either of those necessities from Bailey's presence can result in what is known as A Very, Very Scary Bailey and is not advised under any circumstances.

What Remains Southern Spirits Book 6 edition by Bailey Bradford Romance eBooks Reviews
While I have enjoyed all of the books in the Southern Spirits series to date, What Remains may be my favorite. Where When the Dead Speak focused on Laine and how his relationship with Sev developed, this book is more about Sev and his ability to communicate with the spirits. Set three years later, Sev and the other residents of McKinton are taken aback when they realize that the spirits of their friends and family are no longer present. While this is upsetting for all of the residents affected as they take comfort in knowing that the spirits in their lives are watching over them, their disappearance is especially devastating for Severo because a large part of his identity is tied to speaking with the spirits.
That the disappearance coincides with the arrival of Chris’s mother’s coven and an unexpected visit by one of Sev’s sisters has Laine’s cop instincts pinging. Truth be told, after what happened with Zeke’s sister, I didn’t blame Laine one bit for being wary over an out-of-the-blue phone call to mend the family ties. Yet when Alma, her husband, and their kids arrive, it is clear that the concern was for naught as they have finally broken from the financial ties Sev’s parents hold over his siblings. Oh yes! We learn just how despicable Severo’s parents are in this installment and as bad as I thought it was based on the previous books, I found out it was even worse than that. But when Severo learns what the final straw was that helped Alma cut ties, my heart warmed and broke at the same time for Alma and Rogelio. All the while that Sev is renewing his relationship with his sister’s family, he and Laine are trying to figure out who is behind the disappearance of McKinton’s spirits. I must say that I was just as shocked as they were when they figured out who was responsible.
I suppose it’s because all of the spirits were missing that this installment felt more all-encompassing of the town’s residents. While the focus was on Severo, Bradford gives readers the opportunity to catch up with each of the couples from the previous books, which is something I almost always enjoy when reading a series. Even though Sev has played a big role in several of the books, I felt as though I got to know him so much better as a man instead of just as Sev, The Ghost Whisperer. And I was so happy that his sister’s visit turned out so well. The inclusion of Miriam’s coven in bringing the spirits back to McKinton made for an interesting facet of the story and I really enjoyed how that played out. I loved that the chemistry between Laine and Sev is just as strong after three years together, and perhaps even stronger. What Remains was an excellent addition to the Southern Spirits series and I am already looking forward to reading Ascension.
I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

In this book we revisit Sheriff Laine and his partner Severo who can communicate with spirits. The two men have been together for some time, and they believe they have a good life. But when Severo's sister claims she wants to meet up with him, after years of sporadic connections at best, things start to get hooky.
The spirits are missing and that is putting everyone's nerves on edge as well. Severo has always been used to having spirits in his life, especially Connor, Laine's dead boyfriend. But it's not just Connor that is missing, Stefan and Mrs. Hawkins hadn't been popping in either. When Zeke calls him and says he hasn't felt his mother's presence for four days Severo gets a really bad feeling about the whole situation.
This is a book that does have to be read in line with the others in the series. It is a continuation that involves plenty of the other characters from previous books.
With a coven in town for the blessing ceremony and Severo's sister visiting, there is all sorts going on.
I won't say much more about the storyline because I don't want to give out any spoilers. But this one was really interesting - a totally unique way of looking at the afterlife. I loved how important the spirits were to every couple they came into contact with, and how upset the people connected to them were when they were missing.

Just over three years have passed since Severo Robledo came to McKinton to warn Sheriff Laine Stenley about his dead lover’s murderer coming for him.
Sev’s sister has just rung him wanting to know if they can visit! Sev’s family have done nothing but ostracise him and make him feel like there was something seriously wrong with him. He’s in for a huge surprise when they get to McKinton and Sev discovers that his nephew Rogelio-Ro, is gay. While Sev is trying to help his nephew, sister and their family come to grips with the fact there is nothing wrong with Ro being gay the Wiccan High Priestess, who happens to be Chris Neeland’s mother has decided to bless the Hawkins Senior and Youth Centre and has invited the High Priest to help, Sev realises that all of the spirits of McKinton have disappeared. Sev searches everywhere for them he even goes to the hospitals and retirement homes, which Sev hasn’t ever been able to stand spending time in, nothing.
Sev feels like he’s being pulled in a hundred different directions and yet he feels total devastation and loss at the complete silence in his head. Sev has never been alone, he has always heard spirits, hell, his parents had him committed to a mental institution when he was a child because they couldn’t deal with his psychic skills. So begins the towns struggle to get the spirits back from where they’ve been sent.
What Remains is the transition book in the Southern Spirits series. I have taken the title to mean what remains after all of the upheaval with both the spirits and the humans that live in McKinton? The spirits stories! You really need to read the entire Southern Spirits series.
Sometimes you only think you know the truth of the past. When past, present and a few meddling spirits come together truths come out. Now the question is where have those meddling spirits gone. Loved the battles of light vs dark and finding the answer to the where the spirits went.
